Transition Year Programme
TY programme
The Transition year Programme is a unique one year programme that promotes the personal, Social, vocational and educational development of students. TY provides a bridge to enable students to make the transition from the more dependent type learning associated with Junior Cycle to the more independent learning environment associated with Senior Cycle. It encourages the development of a wide range of transferable critical thinking and creative problem solving skills.
The Transition Year is an activity based self-directed programme, which entails learning both inside and outside the classroom. Students who are self-motivated, can work hard and adapt well to new learning experiences.
There are many diverse and exciting activities for students to engage in over the course of the academic year, they include:
- Trinity Access Programme Roadshow
- Junk Kouture
- 2 weeks Bridge to College Programme
- TU Dublin TY Challenges: Debating competition; Photography; TU Electronics: Baking Challenge; Visual Merchandising; Team-Building; Design Craft Challenge.
- 12 week: Young Creators Programme: Podcasting Challenge
- Fighting Words Programme: all year - including working with famous author Roddy Doyle
- Google Visit
- “One Week” work experience at Google
- Goodbody work placement (one week)
- Davys Work Placement (three Fridays)
- KPMG International Girls in IT Day
- Cavan Trip
- Gaisce Programme
- 4 weeks of work experience
